On January 20th at Hilldale High School, the Beggs Power Team competed in their first competition of the season. The first lift of the day was the squat. Plenty of Golden Demon lifters set new personal records, and one lifter, Hayden Horton, set a new all-time Beggs record with a squat of 505 pounds. The Golden Demons were off to a good start with Hayden Horton and Andrew Clay finishing in the top 5 of their weight class in squat and sophomore Coye Hamilton being the top squatter in his weight division. Next up was the bench press. The Demons picked up right where they left off in the squat by setting new personal records across the board. The Demons had 6 lifters, Coye Hamilton, BJ Williams, Derek Reed, Andrew Clay, Caden Cooper, and Hayden Horton, finish in the top five in bench press in their weight class. The last lift of the day was the crowd favorite — dead-lift. The Demons where primed and ready to turn some heads in the last event of the day. The Demons showed out with 2 top dead-lifters, Coye Hamilton and Derek Reed, having the top lift of the day in their weight class. Andrew Clay, Caden Cooper, and Hayden Horton finished in the top five in their weight class in dead-lift. Last but not least, Brandon Williams took second in the dead-lift by setting a new all-time Beggs Record with a dead-lift of 525 pounds. The Golden Demons performed well, scoring 94 points and taking home 4th place overall. Top performers for the Golden Demons were Coye Hamilton, taking 1st overall, and BJ Williams and Andrew Clay taking 3rd overall in their weight class. Other notable performers are Hayden Horton with a 4th overall, Caden Cooper with a 5th overall, Derek Reed with 7th overall, Dj Terry with 8th overall, and Zac Caldwell with 10th overall in their weight classes. Other lifters with great showings were freshmen Dalton Coble and Tafv Sanders competing in their first weight meet as well as sophomores Andrew “Tank” Price and TJ Austin and juniors Jackson Turner and Chase Stanek.
